Join us for a dinner discussion with researcher Tori Brescoll, a professor at the School of Management. Her research focuses on the impact of stereotypes on individual’s status within organizations, particularly the status of individuals who violate gender stereotypes. She is extremely well known for her research on perceptions of assertive women in the workplace, which has been covered widely, including in the New York Times. Come join us for a discussion about what young women can do when entering the working world to avoid gender biases.

2) WLI presents: A conversation with Christina Kim; Tuesday, April 6 at 4 p.m., WLH 207
The Women's Leadership Initiative is collaborating with the Yale Sustainable Food Project and other student groups to bring celebrated fashion designer Christina Kim to campus for an intimate talk with students on April 6 at 4pm in WLH 207. Ms. Kim uses recycled materials from many different countries and cultural traditions to create pieces for her fashion label, Dosa. She’ll speak about working with local artisans and preserving traditional craftsmanship, as well as the eco-friendly, humanitarian philosophy behind Dosa. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity to chat with this amazing designer and socially conscious female leader! (flyer attached)

The Women's Leadership Initiative at Yale and Pierson College are hosting Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine, and Dr. Catherine Birndorf, psychiatrist and women's mental health expert, to help students feel happier and more satisfied in every area of their lives. Together, they have written the newly-published Nine Rooms of Happiness: Loving Yourself, Finding Your Place, and Getting Over Life's Little Imperfections. Lucy and Catherine will offer practical solutions to the problems that are universal to women—relationships, friendships, family, work/money stress, time crunch and work/life balance, body image and health, personal fulfillment, finding your purpose and the search for a meaningful life. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Undergraduate Women in Science at Yale is inviting Professor Ann Valentine in Chemistry department to its dinner series! Ann Valentine is an assistant professor of inorganic and biophysical chemistry, and her research explores the use of metals in nature and the development of potential titanium-based anticancer drugs. She also studies about a microbial transferrin named nicatransferrin which may tell us how nature developed the ability to manage hydrolysis-prone metals like iron in an environment containing oxygen. She was awarded the American Chemical Society PROGRESS/Dreyfus Lectureship Award in 2007 and the Paul D Saltman Award for Metals in Biology in 2009. Come talk to our prominent faculty and learn about her life as a female scientist and interesting topics in bioinorganic chemistry!

Vivian Schiller biography (from Poynter web site):
A media executive and journalist with more than 20 years experience in the industry, Vivian Schiller joined NPR as President and CEO on January 5, 2009. She comes to NPR from The New York Times Company where she served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of NYTimes.com.
As President and CEO, Schiller oversees all NPR operations and initiatives, including the organization's critical partnerships with our 800+ member stations, and their service to the more than 26 million people who listen to NPR programming every week.
Schiller is charged with assuring the fiscal and operational integrity of NPR, offering a clear and strong commitment to continuous strategic growth, and building the organization and its philanthropic base in ways that support the mission of NPR and stations.
During her tenure at The New York Times, she led the day-to-day operations of NYTimes.com, the largest newspaper website on the Internet, overseeing product, technology, marketing, classifieds, strategic planning, and business development.
Before joining NYTimes.com, Schiller spent four years as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Discovery Times Channel, a joint venture of The New York Times and Discovery Communications. Under her leadership, Discovery Times Channel tripled its distribution while achieving critical acclaim for its award winning journalistic programming.
Previously, Schiller served as Senior Vice President of CNN Productions, where she led CNN's long-form programming efforts. Documentaries and series produced under her auspices earned multiple honors, including two Peabody Awards, two Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards, and five Emmys. Schiller began her career as a simultaneous Russian interpreter in the former Soviet Union, which led her to documentary production work for Turner Broadcasting.
As President, Schiller is also an ex officio member of the NPR Board.
